Restaurants
If you are a tourist, student, or have
just moved to Cuernavaca here are some Restaurants to help you get acquainted with
this great town. I have been pleasantly surprised to find many outstanding
restaurants in the area, especially all the great Italian restaurants. We are going to add more restaurants, some
reviews and menus etc in the future. One little note: We do
not charge to be listed on this page. All the restaurants on here are here
because I or someone else ate there and liked it.
Casa Piemonte
Galeana no 55 phone 318-0334
Its very attractively decorated, landscaped etc.
They have a large menu ranging from 60 pesos to 600 ( lobster for 2).
Italian with most pasta dishes around 80-120 pesos. Good enough to go just
to get some food, nice enough to take people to impress them. Garden
setting, With plastic drapes for inclimate weather.
Bistro Gaia
In the shopping center with the Superama on Rio Mayo.
The restaurant Gaia near the Zocolo is arguably one of the best and most
expensive restaurants in town. The Bistro Gaia on the other hand is much
more reasonably priced but with the same high quality food.
Thai Restaurant
Tepozteco 100 - phone 372 0575
Nice little outdoor restaurant behind Sam's Club. Mid price range, Thai
food, good botonas.
Vivaldi
Pericon no. 102 Near Plaza Cuernavaca. 318-0122.
Very nice restaurant mostly outdoor garden setting. Has a bakery in front
so naturally the desserts and breads are very good. I think they have the
best bread basket in Cuernavaca. Menu is very big, lots of German and Mexican
dishes. Fairly inexpensive Family type restaurant.
Salads are huge you will probably want to split one with someone else.
La Via
Ave Morelos Sur #209 314-6258
This restaurant has seating both inside and outside, the outside terrace
overlooks the golf course and is very pleasant atmosphere. They have a
large breakfast and lunch buffets. Also serve ala cart off the menu.
Tortuga Cucufata
Av. Domingo Diez 1460 (In front of Europa)
This is a upscale Taco restaurant. Very Clean and has really good meat.
It costs quite a bit more then local taco joints, but the quality of the food is
well worth it. This is one of my favorite places to eat. Not fancy,
just good food.
Vienes
de Tejada no 11-b (2 blocks from the Zocalo)
A bit pricy for the atmosphere (greasy spoon type) but the food is very good,
the deserts are the best in town.
Mikosa
This is on Benito Juerez 15m Tek 310-3081, its right next to the La Fontaina pizza.
This is my favorite Japanese restaurant in Cuernavaca. Its not fancy,
actually kind of dumpy. But its clean and has a very large menu at
reasonable prices. They used to have a menu with pictures and recently
changed to a new menu (with higher prices) with no pictures. If you have
trouble trying to figure out what a Japanese dish in Spanish really is,
ask and they will go in the back and find one of the old menus with the pictures.
Marlin's As the name
implies a popular sea food restaurant. A large and varied menu,
Set in a garden setting. Could be cold during the winter.

Since 1979 Giuseppe's has served the best pizza, pasta, fondue, and panini in
Cuernavaca. Very pleasant atmosphere, very friendly, good food at
reasonable prices. Most entries are around 70 peso's. Marco
Polo

Good Italian food, friendly atmosphere, Pasta dishes are around 100 peso's, the
meat dishes around 50. Great for Pizza, pasta, or other traditional

great food.
Early Dinners.
You have to remember that most Mexicans eat their main meal of the day in the
late afternoon. Usually between 2 and 4. The following three
restaurants are good examples of that.
Los Colorines
Ave E Zapata 595 311-7301
Open in the evenings but the food is no where near as good as in the afternoons.
I highly recommend their special plate with 3 different kinds of meat.
They also have another restaurant in Tepoztzlan. La National
I have to dig up the address but its on Calle National just north of the statue
of Zapata. Excellent Mexican food with a small band on Thursday and Friday
afternoons.
La Maga
(formerly Buba Cafe)
El Centro Calle Morrow #11 phone 310-0432
Open for lunch Mon-Fri In My Opinion the best buffet in town,
Mostly veggies but tons of them, 3 meat dish, Pork, beef, and chicken.
65 pesos includes fruit drink. They are open on Friday and
Saturday evenings with entertainment. You should call to get the schedule.
Tepoztzlan
Has many really nice restaurants some with a great view of the mountains.
My favorite is Axitla (listed below). Teopoztzlan is about a
45 minute ride from Cuernavaca
Axitla
Ave Del Tepozteco (at the foot of the mountain), in Tepoztzlan 395-0519
Excellent food, great atmosphere, has both indoor and outdoor seating. Mid price
range, servings are very large. The quesadillas rellenos are excellent (get an assortment for an appetizer). Large Menu with both Mexican and American
Dishes. (closed on Monday and Tuesday)
