Las Estacas

Las Estacas is located in Tlaltizapan which is about 45 minutes south of the city.
Its in a valley in the Sierra of Montenegro mountains and it has  7,328 hectares, Las Estacas  a special ecosystem where a spring generates 7,500 liters of water each second to form a kilometer of river of crystalline waters that gives life to a great flora wealth and fauna of diverse species. Among the animals that can be observed they are: raccoon, armadillo, tlacuache, flying squirrel, squirrel cuinique, turtle, fish silver, mojarra, common duck and magpie. Two thousand real palms, millennial amates,  fruit-bearing trees and hundreds of flowers make this a fabulous garden setting.

Inside the park numerous tourist services exist, spaces for resting,  and sport, work spaces for groups and conventions and special eco tours promoting the ecological culture of the park to the visitors through the description of the flora and fauna. The park also has hotel service, restaurant, trailer park and camp grounds, as well as an ideal blue pond to practice diving, with the professional instructors. .

Below are a few pictures I took there one Saturday.  Sorry if it takes a while to load,, but this is a picture show!

The river!  Crystal clear, you can see the bottom, plants, fish, and other nice things. One side for about 1/2 of the mile long river is fairly natural, the rest is very nicely landscaped, with pools, lagoons, board walks, trails, etc.
This is a green area along the river on a Saturday.  Lots of people but there is plenty of room.  Only problem is the sun moves, what is shady in the morning is in the sun in the afternoon.  Ah if only all of life's problems were so easily solved.
This is young man taking diving lessons.  They have lots of different classes including swimming, lifesaving, diving, etc.

They rent floats, tubes, boats, diving equipment etc.

There is a restaurant, a snack bar, numerous little stands selling cokes and snacks.

The log that is about 3 feet under the water.  The water is so clear that in this photo it actually looks like its on top of the water.
This is one of the most beautiful parks I have seen in Mexico.  Its beautiful without being over powering.  Whoever designed it and keeps it up to date really knows what they are doing. This photo shows some of the hundreds of trees, some of which are over 500 years old.

That gives you a quick idea.  I also have a few more pictures on the next page.
